One of the famous sights of Tbilisi and its Old Town is the Narikala Fortress. It is located on Mount Mtatsminda, from the height of which an incredibly breathtaking panorama of the entire city opens.
No one knows the exact date of the foundation of the fortress, but according to the chronicles, it existed already in the 4th century under the name Shuris-Tsikhe. Built by the Persians as a military citadel, the fortress expanded significantly under the Arab emirs in the 8th century.

The mountain, on which the great landmark of Georgia is located, is located in the very center of Tbilisi, across the main avenue – Rustavi. Mtatsminda, or Mount David, was named after the Apostle David of Gareji, who lived as a hermit in her cave.
